What's the best way to clean a used filter, media and sponges that came with it? Thanks

If you are unsure of the source then get new sponges and pads

Definately agree with this.

Most people use vinegar and water to clean a used filter.

If it looks really nasty, you can soak in bleach before scrubbing, then soak for 8 hours in a concentrated solution of water and prime, or whatever dechlorinater you usually use.

What kind are you talking about, btw? Got a good deal somewhere?

It's not a bad deal. I got a fluval 304 for $40. I want to increase water flow in the tank. Instead of just getting a powerhead why not get another filter. Right? :)

What's the ratio on vinegar and water? Also on bleach and water? Thanks.

Use as much vinegar as you want, rinse very well. Do a 20 to 1 bleach mix, rinse very well and let air dry.
