i live in los angeles so the coldest it gets is probably 40 degrees lol so i should get 200 watts?

That would probably be fine but just in case and to make it so the heater doesn't have to work sooo hard I'd probably get the 250

I too am considering a 60 gallon tank and a Jager heater. They say the 150W is good for up to 79 gallons. Why get more?

greetings.

the reason to get a heater with more watts is if your room temperature gets very low during winter, it will require the heater to step up and heat more. to counter(ensuring the water will always be steady) that, you can buy a heater that is more powerful. a 150Watt heater will just have to run more to keep the water temperated than a 200Watt, though. in the end you still use the same amount of energy, with a more powerful heater you just ensure that it will be better at keeping a higher temperature with a lower room temperature.
