hydrometer faulty or what?

my hydrometer is a intant ocean one i fill it up with my water and put it on a level surface and it is reading over 1.032 for sg and over 40 ppt what is going on how do i get it down i added the salt the other day i used intant ocean and i checked like an hour after that iand it was 1.023 so it was ok but now its off the charts is this normal????

Rinse it with vinegar also rinse with tap water before and after each use.

Be sure you rinse the hydrometer very well in fresh water after each use. It can quickly build up with dried salt otherwise and skew your results. It should also be rinsed well before use and dipped repeatedly in tank water to be sure all the dust and such is off which can also affect the reading as can trapped air.

Hydrometers are also greatly affected by temp so if you still have the high (90¬į?) temp situation it will throw off the reading.

Short answer, but a refractometer. 8)
