Is my Protein Skimmer working?

Hello all,

I added 50#s of LR 2 days ago and have my Amiarcle Quad II skimmer going. I've yet to see any dark "gunk" bubbling into the skimmer cup. The bubbles are more whitish and don' seem to want to flow over the inside tube into the cup. I have cleaned some pretty dirty pre filter cylindrical sponges. Would these be catching the gunk before it hits the skimmer?

It might be because you have no waste from the liverock for the skimmer to produce skimmate.
