Is there such a thing as too much lighting?

i just recently was offered an excellent deal, ,it is for is on a canopy that houses 2x250Mh lights as well as 3x39 watts actinic lights but i was wondering if that is too much lighting for my 55 gallon?

It depends on what corals you have or want to have. It's too much for most soft corals, but not too much for many SPS corals.
