just got back in after 4 years, any new technologies i should look into?

hi all, i just got back into the hobby after a 4 year layoff or so. i was wondering if there have been any new technologies in the last 4 years that i should look into. also, any new techniques in terms of things like nitrate or phosphate control that are proven to be better? i used to perform biweekly 15% water changes for my 100 gallon tank. it used to work for me well, have there been any differences in amount/frequency that have been proven to be more efficient?

any help would be really appreciated. thanks.
