LEDs as replacements for standard aquarium lighting replacement

has anyone replaced their existing lighting fixture with one that has a lot of high intensity (1watt+) LEDs?

i know they're most commonly used as moonlight setups, but the high intensity stuff is blindingly bright, not to mention they use much less electricity and generate barely any heat.

I have read of some people doing this is smaller setups and having success with it. If you check the DIY section on RC you can find some really detailed writeups, including PAR readings and comparisons.

In the DC Metro Area? Check out GWAPA and WAMAS

Solaris has a fixture that is made of LEDs. It very expensive but pretty cool. A friend of mine has them on his 450g 10' reef tank. They can simulate cloud cover and even storms with lightning strikes.
