So I have 1 T5 light for my 30 gallon tank. How long should I keep it turned on?

You are growing plants correct? Assuming that you have a 30 gallon Breeder i would say that you have LOW LIGHT according to these charts.

I would leave the light on about 10 hours a day. If algae becomes a problem, then lower the photoperiod.

Had.. a fowlr you can leave the lights on 10-12 hours a day.
