lighting and hoods question

Hi people just a quick query, i have a 30x12 tank which at the minute has a plastic hood on which houses one flouro tube, my tank is looking a little dreary and i can hardly see any of my fish, The majority of them are nocturnal or require subdued lighting so i would need something that would light it up a little but not stress them out.

Can you buy small hoods which house more than 1 tube and what sort of lights would you recommend so not to distress the fish, i do have plants in there which require some light.

How long is the tube in the fixture? Perhaps a different tube of the same wattage but higher lumen output would be all that is necessary. I wouldn't be concerned about stressing the fish with more light, especially if the nocturnal species have hiding places.

I think its 20''its supposed to be a daylight lamp for plants. Doesnt seem very bright tho
