Just got my HOB fuge running, have rock rubble and chaeto in there. Right now, I'm just running a desk lamp above it with a regular 60w bulb. I'm not even sure if that's enough light for it, but it looks pretty ugly and it gets really hot, so I'd rather not keep this as the actual fuge light.

Can I run to Home Depot and grab a regular 18inch NO fluorescent fixture and run that for the fuge? If so, what is the min watts that I would need for chaeto to grow successfully in the fuge?

Thanks all.

I use an 18 inch 15W NO flourescent tube. It is the cheap one that came with a 10 gallon aquarium kit. I have no problems with my chaeto growing.

Home Depot has a small fixture with a 6500k flourescent bulb in it. I can't remember the cost, but my Chaeto doubles every few weeks with it...
