Hello Ray...

Lighting that comes with an aquarium is generally not strong enough for plants. It's just for seeing into the tank. If you want to get off to a good start with plants, chose the easy to grow varieties like, Duckweed, Water lettuce, Anubias, Hornwort, Anacharis and Water sprite. Research the lighting requirements for these. They don't need to be planted in the bottom material and will grow in lower light either attached to a piece of driftwood or floating in the water close to the light source. Get light that's 2 to 3 watts per gallon of tank volume in intensity and is in the 5500 to 6500K range. Just do a little homework first.

The depth of 24Ē/60cm coupled with an odd shape tank may present problems getting decent lighting. A lot depends on what you plan on growing. Adding guppy grass and subwassertang to the list above.
