My friend recently upgraded his lighting to a custom LED set up, and has given me his old bulb. It's the same size as mine 15" and looks the same but it gives a different light out (does that make any sense?)

Here's the pictures side by side, I have anubias and java fern in my tank so which light would be better?

That depends on the color temperature and your preference. for the plants, the closer you get to 6700k the better. I've used bulbs in the past that were good for plant growth but horrible IMO visually. That's where two bulb fixtures are nice. Something for you and something for your plants.
Since these are low light plants, they may grow just as well with either bulb. If that's the case, then it might be a matter of preference on your part; warmer on the left or cooler on the right.
