I've been looking to start up with plants again - I had a 29g and 45g planted about 5-6 years ago but had bad luck and left the hobby!

Anyways, I like the stylish, sleek look of the Eclipse 6g as I want to start small and have a dwarf puffer or two :).

I'm curious if the light over the Eclipse 6g is adequate enough for low-mid lighting level plants? If not, what retrofit options are out there for this hood?

difficulty with lighting is one of two reasons I'll never own an Eclipse system (the other is their proprietary hood setup, which costs an arm & a leg to get replacement pieces for).

your best option is a screw in power-compact, or use the light already in the unit and stick to java ferns, crypts and anubias (low low light only).

otherwise, retro-fitting involves cutting off sections of the hood to provide enough space for larger bulbs.
