Yea the whole set up in them is very simple. I'll probably just start building my own when I need new lights

Bases on pictures I've seen the taotronics have blue/white LEDs alternated. The off brands are in rows. Would it matter much with 120 optics/non optics?

They all come with 120 degree optics at least from what I am told. This is the little bubble you see over the diode. The next option would be 90 degree, and IME, unless you have a tank deeper than 30", you don't need the 90 degree optics.

Agreed. Depends on depth. Most tanks don't need the narrower beam angle from a 90 or 60 degree lens.

So blue white in rows or checkerboard pattern shouldn't matter?
