I live in Hawaii and went to the shore to pick live rock, a friend said to soak it in freshwater for 1 hour to kill and let the critters off the rock.
My question is does the all bacteria also die if soaked in freshwater for 1 hour?

I don't think an hour will kill any of the bacteria. What are you trying to do? Use it in a freshwater aquarium? I would think boiling or at least pouring boiling water over it would be the best bet. I'm not a saltie so I'm not sure though.

I guess I was thinking from a parasite stand point, not so much the beneficial bacteria. Learn something new everyday. ;)

I agree that the freshwater did kill all the beneficial bacteria. SW and FW bacteria are not the same.
