It took a lot of courage to ask this question. For aquascaping , is it possible to use slate squares (from Home Depot ) and if so, how does one cut them ? Thanks !

I believe so, check out the bricks also. Some bricks at the lowes near my house are 43 cents and already have holes in them

How to cut slate, I used a big hammer to make it more natural looking. I found a big piece of slate from a dismantled billiard table, took a big hammer to it and went to town. Some pieces came out pretty nice.

Thank you both for your replies. Gilpi, how did you manage the sharp edges, were you able to use a sander ?

If u have a manual metal tool sharpener it may be better tehn a sander, as it will cut off big sharp pieces without dust flying around
