My 30gal is 19in tall-ish and it sits pretty close to the bottom. You shouldn't need extensions. It comes with an extension tube with a flow adjustment on it. I will snap a pic.

Kind of hard to see but the intake goes down to about 1-2 inches off the substrate.

Yeah, I've had mine a month and that darn propeller is ALREADY being a PIA. It filters great but the thing sure is picky.

when you do water changes and it drains.. You start it back up, makes noise?? Just pour water into the box until it catches up ..

Yeah I figured that out day one. Its that propeller. I will admit to finding bit of sand in the box a week ago. Just rinsed it out well and it was all good. I have to remove the propeller completely, make sure it is pushed all the way down clear of the plastic housing and it turns fine. Good to know I can order that one part if needed though

Ooooooo pretty. I LOVE opening my new toys. Especially if I have had to wait forever for shipping, even a couple days feels like forever though
