Matching PC bulb with correct ballast question?

I have a 30" PC light by Current USA, and I was wondering if I could switch out my 65w 50/50 bulb for just a single 32w using the same ballast? Will my bulb explode or anything crazy? It is just a planted FW tank, and I don't really want or need the 50% that is actinic in my current bulb.

It will not be a problem. Electronic ballast can run lower wattage bulbs, but not higher.

Why not use a 65W bulb thats not 50/50. Here is a link to various 65W bulbs. BTW you do need to make sure the end pins are the same pattern. Some are in a square pattern like this :: and others are in a row like this ....

All of the ones linked above are square pin like this ::

Thank you both. It is acutally a dual 65W bulb fixture that I have over my 29 gallon. I am shooting for closer to 3 WPG if possible, and a 32 watt bulb with the other 65 watt I have would be perfect. Right now I have 130 watts over the tank which is way too much, but 50% of one bulb is actinic which doesn't affect plants much from what I understand. But I have heard that it possibly helps algae, so I am trying to lower the wattage.

03 really doesnt help FW algae it has the same K needs as FW plants.. It might help your plants grow a little "bushier" though....
