mechanical for maintenance

Thanks for the help, I totaly get it now. So along wit the setup I have one thing I forgot to mention. I am running my old Tetra PF 300 with no pads, its for water circulation and a place to add carbon. What if say just for periodic maintenance I add the filter media to the filter and run it for a day or two just for the mechanical advantage. It could help water clarity ?? Just an idea what do you think.

Sure that would be fine. I would avocate running carbon for maybe 1 week a month for water clairty.
