Mesh filter guard question

There's a few online sellers that have a mesh filter guard that replaces the strainer. It fits onto the intake pipe just like the strainer. They are advertised in different diameters 10,12,14,16,17 etc.
Can someone tell me the proper diameter to purchase to fit on the intake pipe of a Rena Filstar?

Look for Han Aquatics, Han used to be on TPT under the user name of H4N. He's in the US and makes a lot of those filter guards so you don't have to wait too long for overseas shipping. He also knows a lot of sizes based on your application. So you should message him. He's on Facebook and also has a site now...

you could probably make your own for much less money and use plastic canvas sheets instead;
