I bought a few mesh baggies to use with carbon and peat granules, but I didn't realise they had metal zips as the closing mechanism. I have a freshwater tropical tank. I know with a marine tank they'll be a no no because of the salt, but I just wanted to make sure they'll be safe to use and not leach any nasty metals into the water before adding them.

If it's stainless steel (unlikely) you're ok. I wouldn't do it if you're not sure.

I thought as much. Thankfully the bags weren't too expensive.

Thanks for the reply!
