My thoughts are that the canopy could be salvaged. I have an mdf stand and it works well because it doesn't trap moisture such as a canopy would. If you do salvage it it would seal it, probably seal the stand too. Once sealed install some small fans (make sure if you cut them into the canopy you cut the holes prior to sealing) like from inside a computer so the moist air in the canopy can circulate and escape and you shouldn't have the problem anymore.

I had one of them glossy black lacquer canopy and stand awhile back. It was painted on both sides but still managed to soak up moisture. It was made of that MDF board. After a couple of years the board got so soggy the hinges just pulled off the canopy. Still looked good from the outside though.

Update: the manufacturer sent a new wood stand and canopy up with my LFS owner at his last pick up (he drives down to CA 2 x/yr) and I got it at cost.

It's made of 3/4 ply and solid wood- no MDF anywhere. I still sealed the canopy and am putting in fans though!
