I am trying to start a nano saltwater tank.

I have purchased a "Hydor Koralia 12V Controllable PowerHead Nano"

I did not realize that this powerhead, doesnt go directly into a wall outlet.

this is a picture of the power line running from it

The pictures don't load here at work so i can't say for sure. But from what you are discribing i would say you got a powerhead that requires a wavemaker controller to run. It is a box that controls the power heads to make different flow patterns. Check and see if Koralia makes a wavemaker.

Doing a quick search I found that power head listed for sale. In the description it says "The Koralia #1 12V range is specifically designed for use connected to the Hydor Koralia Wavemaker system. IT CAN NOT BE USED WITHOUT THE Hydor Koralia Wavemaker."

The Wavemaker system is another 260.00-400.00...

As i feared. Might want to return that for a normal koralia power head since this is just a nano.

Looks again like you need to have a control unit... that is why it says "controllable".

As Smitty said... any of the "controllable" Koralias need the base control unit. There are two flavors of the control unit - one of them controls 2 pumps, the other controls 4. Both are very pricey.

I'm thinking you want something like this...

https://www.petsolutions.com/Default...temID=41400716

These plug directly into the wall, and do not need a control unit. They are either "on" or "off".

I believe (don't quote me) that this PH requires a wavemaker to operate, meaning it can't just be plugged in and run standalone.

Hydor makes a wavemaker system that you'll need to run this head.
