I am trying to start a nano saltwater tank.

I have purchased a "Hydor Koralia 12V Controllable PowerHead Nano"

I did not realize that this powerhead, doesnt go directly into a wall outlet.

this is a picture of the power line running from it

I am extrememly confused with that wire. What does it plug into?

what is it called, where can I buy it?

Pleas help me if you can

The pictures don't load here at work so i can't say for sure. But from what you are discribing i would say you got a powerhead that requires a wavemaker controller to run. It is a box that controls the power heads to make different flow patterns. Check and see if Koralia makes a wavemaker.

As i feared. Might want to return that for a normal koralia power head since this is just a nano.

As Smitty said... any of the "controllable" Koralias need the base control unit. There are two flavors of the control unit - one of them controls 2 pumps, the other controls 4. Both are very pricey.

I'm thinking you want something like this...

These plug directly into the wall, and do not need a control unit. They are either "on" or "off".

I believe (don't quote me) that this PH requires a wavemaker to operate, meaning it can't just be plugged in and run standalone.

Hydor makes a wavemaker system that you'll need to run this head.

I'm pretty sure there was another thread about this somewhere and the same information was relayed... don't know if that was a different poster though.
