That substrate was very brown when washing. Tank was brown for about 1day.

How big is your fixture? I am not sure how to mount the T5 on a Hex. Suspend it maybe? But hey, I also have a 35 gallon Hex and I went with a Kessil A150W as a substitute for a Hamilton 175Watt Metal Halide fixture. Because your tank is bigger than mine, you may need a Kessil A360. The A360 is more powerful than mine and they are made for reef aquariums, but You can manually tune them to 6500k and use them in a planted aquarium. I will not kid you...Kessils are pricey. Here are some options that I see: 1. A Hamilton 175Watt Metal Halide Pendant. 2. A Kessil A360. 3. Two Kessil A150WEs. 4. It will clear up. Just let your tank cycle while the water clears. I have the same substrate as you. It took mine a couple of weeks.

Two of those light fixtures may work for you. I would try just the one at first and then if that didn't produce enough light I would look into a second fixture.
