Recommendations on a new vac? My vac is old with cracked plastic and last night came apart several times while using it. So I'm getting a new one. How well do the battery ones work? They claim to have filter bag to don't have to do water change when vacuuming. Not looking to go pricey, just a good basic vacuum that I don't have to start it myself.

I would recommend a battery vacuum. You can get one on Amazon for around $10-$15 dollars. I have used the Tom's one sold by Dr. Fosters and Smith and an unknown brand one from Amazon. You can hook a hose up to them to funnel water away or hook a collection bag up to it. Work great for starting water flow to suction water out of the tank.

I saw those on Amazon, just wasn't sure how well they worked.
