I went with the Penguin 125 and wish I had stepped up to the Penguin 170.

In the last couple weeks I have purchased 2 AC200's. I really like them because they are so simple and really seem to work well. I have one on a 5.5g (Turned down all the way most of the time except after I vacume or get something mixed up) and one on a 20g tall.

even an aquaclear 150 would give you 7.5x turnover on a 20g tank, barring flow restictions from media, of course.
55g: 1 black angel, 1 koi angel, 1 marble angel, 3 blue rams, 2 bolivian rams, 5 diamond tetras, 5 gold tetras, 3 leopard corys, 1 bristlenose pleco
55g: gouramis: 2 pearl, 1 blue, 2 dwarf fire, 2 dwarf honey , 1 dwarf powder blue; 5 tiger barbs, 5 golden barbs, 3 zebra loaches, 1 SAE
30g: 1 miss. map turtle, 5 blue spotted sunfish
10g: 7 cardinal tetras, 7 black neon tetras, 5 pygmy cories
10g: 3 leopard geckos
a yellow lab, a bichon frise, and a grey tabby cat

Seems like the recommended filters here have big tank max sizes. Is it a better practice to get a filter that has an output for a bigger tank? I mean, if my tank is a 20G, I guess I should get a filter that says it's for up to a 30 or 50 gallon tank instead?

20 gallon freshwater.
