New filter. What to put in extra media cartridge?

I've got a new Emperor 280 bio-wheel filter. It has a place for a filter cartridge with carbon on the backside of it and also a place for a big extra media cartridge that it came with (right behind the wheel). I was wondering if I should just fill the extra media cartridge with carbon and put it in there, or use two filter cartridges instead, or put something else in the media cartridge besides carbon? Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I have to of these filters, and use 100% poly-fil in the cartridges.

You can buy it at Wal-Mart or a craft store. The brand is Fairfield, used for pillows, etc. Just make sure it is 100% poly-fil.

Alright thanks. I had read something about getting some that wasn't treated with a fire retardant and I wasn't sure if that was necessary or even possible.
