I just recently bought a aqualife internal mini skimmer 115 after reading several good reviews.

Now it has been running in my tank for almost a week and it still doesnt seem to be working. I am wondering if any of yall have used this same skimmer and had problems at first or know whats going on.

I am brand new to fish tanks so any advice would be helpful from what i can see it seems like the pump is running way too fast and not only filling the tank with air bubbles but overflowing the collection cup.

here are some pics

How big is that tank you have? It's possible that the skimmer is broken, considering i haven't heard any good things about the nano skimmers. But then again, i haven't heard any bad things either. It could also just be that it is still breaking in. I have seen skimmers break in at two weeks.. so i guess anything is possible.

By the way, when i was setting up my skimmer, it was overflowing with water just as yours is because i didn't have something that was creating bubbles.. which would be an airline tube in my case. Are you sure you have everything hooked up correctly?

ya i have a 29g and i am sure that everything is hooked up correctly... hmm so i should wait another week i suppose... it has toned down alot on the noise but i thought it should have gone hand in hand with the power of the motor.

Do all new skimmers have a breakin period or it is just the nanos?

Most of them, if not all have break in periods. It doesn't just pertain to the nanos.

All new skimmers will need to go through a break-in period, it removes all the oils from the inside. Your tank doesn't have to have a skimmer, PWC will do the same.

IMO your skimmer is running way too wet. The upper section should empty except for a green sludge. Try adjusting your skimmer higher out of the water. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v603/pbreaction/DSC00205.jpg
I bought a Fission Nano skimmer for a 12 gallon and could never get rid of the micro bubbles. I also had a Turbo Floater 1000 (rated at 250 gallons) on a 30 gallon but it never produced much. IMO any tank under 50 gallons can rely on water changes to remove dissolved organics.

ok will try to raise it and see what happens i am also going to call aqua life and see what they recomend about fixing it
