Right now I have a powerfilter in my FOWLR. I have sponges in the filter and ceramic rings. The rings cover my whole filter so do I need to put my rings in a bag? Or can I just leave it bagless?

You are going to have to keep the rings and sponges very clean or you will have a nitrate factory on your hands. Personally I would keep them in a bag and rinse very well when I do a water change. The sponges the same way. With the type of filter you have make sure you keep up on water changes.

If the rings are the prefilter, go bagless. If they're the biomedia, I prefer to bag them for easier maintenance.
