Nitrate filter/ pad

Hi

I Need to go away from home for over a week
I have no one to do pwc for me and so I bought nitrate removal filter from my LFS who "swear by them"

My questions are
1. Has anyone any experience of these

2. If it works, is there any harm
In continuing to leave them in after I return home?

Hello lab...

You don't need to make special arrangements for your tank if you're only away for a week or two. A couple of weeks before you leave, feed the fish a little more often. A couple of days before you leave, stop all feeding and perform a larger than normal water change. The fish live off their small, fat reserves and you come home to a clean tank.
