Noisy skimmer - nwb150

I Purchased an octo reef nwb150 from brs a month ago and I decided to run it yesterday now that I'm almost done cycling my tank. This is my first time using a skimmer so I dont know if the skimmers are really this noisy. On top of that my tank is in the living room is its making a waterfall noise and you can also hear a humming sound. My dad tried to cover one of the tube that's sticking out n the muffler to stop the noise but I know this is nt the way to fix it because it's producing less bubbles. What should I do?

I have the photocopy direction that came with it in the box.

Try taking the pump apart. Running the pump in a vinegar solution might help out as well.
