Overflow idea

I just have a quick thinkin of the overflow,
If I setup the return outlet of the sumpt to be at the same height at the inlet of the overflow box, that way if the pump stay off, both the inlet and outlet will stop flowing down to the sump once the water level come just below the the mark? Thus saving the drilling hole (still good idea any way)? Is there any downside from doing that?

the only issue that would suck imo is that the inlet side is going to be so high just blowing across the top of the tank !

good luck keith

You may find the need for powerheads to provide 'deep water currents' since the return will be using up most of its energy by moving the water at the surface. Drilling a half dozen small holes on the return line works great. Perodic checking and clearing the holes is all thats needed. I would never classify an overflow system as 'set it and forget it' so a few seconds every week isnt that much to ask i it?
