Poly fill

Can I use 100% poly fill in my filter? I have heard you can but do I need to rinse it at all?

yes rinse it to move whatever dust and other various particles are on/in it.

go to your local fabric store or maybe even walmart and they sell it in big rolls about 3/4 to 1 inch thick and its usually about $150 a square yard

Poly is mech filtration if you just have that you won't have any bio media so everytime you wash it or change it you will be doing a mini cycle

Rinse it in old tank water to preserve your BB colonies, that will minimize any chance of a mini cycle that would be had by swapping it out or rinsing it in tap water.
