does anyone know if i could put 96watt lights in a power compact light system that has 65watt bulbs in it without replacing the ballast

I personally dont think you will be able to. You are putting a stronger bulb in than the system came with. Your ballast might not be able to handle it but I`m just taking a guess. Maybe our lighting guru`s can help.

i believe if you do this it will only power the bulb to 65w. though my 65w have a different pin then the 96w though.

Hmm, I've never researched it myself but I assume there's a different resistance in the 96W bulbs that the 65W ballasts aren't configured to run with. probably bad for the ballast.

What's the intent? You won't get more performance out of a 65W ballast with a larger bulb, as the ballast will only put out what it can - assuming it lights up. Why not use the correct bulb? If you want more light, you need to upgrade the ballast too.
