IM thinking about getting one of these for my 40 gallon. I don't want an insane amount of current just a nice gentle current, what would be a good brand and gph? Should I use 2 and split the gph?

I am not really sure on freshwater. But I'm pretty sure you want 4-5 turnovers per hour for a under stocked-stocked tank. And in all of my tanks I break up the flow with two powerheads. Sorry I couldn't help more haha

Yeah. So for a 40 gallon you would want 169 at minimum. For a light flow I'd go slightly higher.
