Prefilters on Maxi-Jet Powerhead questions
I have a couple of JBJ 235 GPH
Powerheads in my 40 Gallon Breeder. I am getting nervous now that I have creatures, and see them cleaning the intakes....I am a little nervous that something could happen.
I am thinking about replacing them with a Maxi-Jet 600 and 900, and getting the Pre-Filters that are a option. I had a few questions:
1. Do adding pre-filters decrease the GPH
that these pump give?
2. Do the pre-filters stick on the outside or on the inside of the Maxi-Jet intake
3. Are they hideous to look at?
I am trying to keep a 15 times turnover in the tank, and with the maxi 600 160 GHP, the 900 230 GHP, and the Rio 600 on my CPR BakPak giving me 200 GHP I am there. I want to add adequate flow without making a cyclone in the tank. My 2 X JBJ 235 have a small outlet hole, and creates perhaps too much flow in a narrow area.
I would be open to any other powerhead suggestions in an attempt to keep good flow...without jet propelling the occupants against the side of the aquarium
