Has anyone ever tried using a preskimmer box for a mini-fuge? I found my skimmer to work better without the preskimmer box, but I'm considering putting it back on and adding live rock rubble to the return compartment for pod growth. Is there too much water flow for this to even be effective? Too little space? It just seems in theory that it would work. I've got 160lbs of live rock in a 3 month old 110gallon tank and would like to eventually (in another 8-9 months) buy a mandarin but I've got no sump or fuge so I'm a little worried about my pod population and would like to increase it without buying a hob fuge.

Thanks.

what about adding Chaeto in the preskimmer box? does Chaeto need light? i have an aqua C PS.

chaeto need light. not a wicked amount, but some.
a fuge that small isn't going to support a significant pod population at all.
