In marine the thing is depth because of the salt that is in the water "cutting" the light.
The 33 will have 15+ cups of salt in it.
Ever try to shine light through a cup of salt?

But Australia has different pricing and these would be 4 or 6 ft tanks with say nice wood stands. Depth 2 or 2.5ft so a PAR meter not needed but I think useful.

As a rule of thumb if I ever manage to get rid of a sofa so I can get another large tank, I'd say I would allow $2,500 for basic FW. Then $4,000 for planted. SW I'm told could run to 10 grand. The equipment would be better now but my neighbour still mentions a guy he knows that has a burglar alarm and backup power generator - not for break-ins but so if power goes down, he gets alarm sent, rushes home to switch generator on

ahh Aussie pricing is ruthless i hear. you guys have a hell of a cichlid club in sydney though. ive gotten lots of good info from them in the past when i was first starting my peacock cichlid breeding. I Traded 60 2" discus for my 150gl with stand, 2 fluval fx6 cannister, and uv sterilizer the size of my leg with mountings.

Yeah, and Perth is even more isolated than Sydney even though both are capital cities.

I think for lighting the U.S. bml website looked tempting. That way I would know I'm getting a decent FW planted light and not something that is a repackaged reef light.

Cichlid tanks seem often done here. Not sure why. Planted might be more rare. Talking with lfs staff it seems that a planted large tank is regarded as hard to do. I think it's because we're still catching up in co2 and lighting equipment offered at the lfs (although this is high end so perhaps specialist lfs).

I turned swordtails into emperor angels....
Have not had to buy a marine fish in years!
My heart broke when my 120 from NJ got marine ich and I lost the emperor angel, a cheveron tang, powderblue tang, and fox face!
Thank God I didn't drop the $500+
Bandit would not be where he is if he did !

Tao tatronics ( spelling is not my strong suit, sorry) their 165 watt LEDs with two channels an are dim-able. So you can match it to what your tank needs. An their under a 100$ usally. Their on eBay quite often an got one of mine on sale for 79$
