Question about using a MaxiJet instead of Mag- water return

I want to do a setup alot like the one above. I think I want to use the wave maker and all becuase it will help create a random current. I have an extra maxi 1200 that I wanted to use instead of the mag drive that he uses. It seems I hear everyone using the Mags. Would it be ok for me to use the maxi instead?

Mags put out a ton more water at higher pressures vs. a MJ1200. You could, be good for a nano system, but it won't buy you much water flow in anything bigger.

Its a 29gallon tank. What Mag should I get for a 29gallon then? I dont mind buying it if I need it but not if I dont need it. Im guessing Ill need like a mag 3. 500gph seems like alot of flowing. IM only using a 3/4 single bulkhead.

I use the an extra mj1200 for mixing water and then pumping it into the sump from my mixing container.

You could use a smaller rio pump. They are not as popular , but they work well.
