This question was asked to me and the only answer I came up with was price and chemi pure elite did more then say... Aquaclear's activated carbon.

My friend has a 55 gallon African tank and was going to to run chemi pure elite as opposed to carbon, just to aid it clearing up his water. He does water changes etc... He runs 2 AC110's on the tank and was gonna put the elite in one.

Questions,

Is one better then the other? Was I correct in my answers?

Wasn't really sure and I only use elite for my SW tank.

Chemi-pure Elite is activated carbon and granular ferric oxide(GFO). That being said, it will do more than only carbon, but for the price you are better off buying a high quality carbon such as BRS ROX 0.8 and GFO seperately. Also, I'm not sure anyone knows what quality carbon is used in the Chemi-pure. There is a huge different in carbons. If bought seperately you can also change each one when necessary. If you have a high phosphate level the GFO can exhaust faster then the carbon.
