I'm looking at getting one of these, does this whole thing go in the sump or does it have to be raised up out of the water some?

most skimmers work in about 8 to 10 inches of water

So I would have to raise it some if my water is deeper than that? Just trying to figure out how much room I need vertically.

Yes It should tell you somewhere what depth it should work best in You can build a platform out of egg crete pretty easily
