rena xp2 or xp3

hello, im new here, and im about to buy my first canister filter, which is probably going to be a filstar xp2 or 3, but im not sure which size to get, and what media would you suggest using?

Spend the extra few dollars and go bigger (XP3)....typically I would run it with just bio-media and sponges.....what sized tank is it for and what sort of fish are you considering?

i have a 55 gal fresh with 2 tinfoil barbs, 2 silver dollars, 4 bala sharks, 2 rainbow sharks, and 1 african brown knife

Definitely the XP3, especially since you are going to need to be upgrading your tank as those balas and tinfoils get closer to 12"-14" each.

With your current fish...175 gallons or so.....those barbs and sharks get big and need an inordinate amount of swimming space compared to your other fish.
