I have attached a pic of how my return pump is hard plumbed now. I didnt think ahead to leave myself enough room when I built my sump and now I am going to just have to cut the PVC pipe and revamp it. My question is this. Why not cut the pipe where I have the red line, and insert a peice of flex hose and connect it with 2 clamps on each end of the PVC? This would allow me more flexibility and with 2 strong clamps I dont think it would run the risk of leaking? Any other suggestions?

that's how mine is....I used flexible hose on my hang on overflow, too....with clamps, just like you said--works great.

I'm using a union with a ball valve in line above it. That way you can close the valve, unscrew the union and pull the return pump for maintenance.

I used the barb/threaded ends when I went from PVC to flex. Do not have to worry about it leaking that way.
