Runaway Heater

The 150 watt Visi-Therm Stealth Heater on my 46 gal tank, went crazy yesterday.
The tank temp went from 78'F to 97'F in about 18 hours. I lost 8 cardinal tetras and 4 flame tetras. (sigh) .
The heater was only 8 months old.

Has anyone had a similar problem with this brand/ type of heater?
Also, any recommendations on a replacement unit?

Sure, purchase a Ranco/Aqualogic controller and plug any heater(s) to it, which happens to be an industrial controller rather than the hobby grades you get on everyday heater brands.

Generally speaking the Visi-Therm Stealth heaters are very reliable and not as prone to failure as some cheaper models out there. I use seven of them on different tanks. Since it has a lifetime warranty why not get it replaced by the manufacturer?
