Question Sand substrate

Just a quick question on how to clean sand as i have a gravel cleaner but obv i dont want to suck up all my sand?

secondly, what is the cap i can put on my intake filter to prevent sand from going into my canister?

On siphoning, just don't hover too near the sand.
Also, try moving it in circular manner to create a not too strong current for you to siphon the mess.
