SCWD life span

How long do SCWD units generally last? and can you clean them to extend their life span. I was looking at the RIO 360 degree rotator (I know PH specific), or the SCWD. Which unit has the better performance and longevity?

As long as they are prefiltered they should last a long time. My freind has one running unfiltered for over a year!!

I would stay away from anything RIO. You can put any size pump on a SCWD. If it ever gets clogged with dino's I will remove it and rinse it with hot water. Pipe it with PVC to keep the light out - less algae.
