Should I use teflon tape on pump in sump?

I need to put a barb fitting on the output of my Mag pump that is going to be in my sump. Typically teflon tape is used to prevent the threaded connection from leaking. I am leary of using it as the pump will be submerged in the sump and I am afraid the tape will contaminate the water. Should I use something else or should I even worry about it? Do I even need to worry about it leaking as it will be submerged?

TIA,

-Eric

I don't know if it's harmful but I used it on my pump in the sump.

Teflon tape is VERY inert. Its generaly approved by the NSF for water, FDA for food applications, approved for use on gasoline natural gas lines, and is MilSpec.

I concur. I used teflon tape on all my pipe connections without any apparent ill effect.

Not needed in the sump, No need to worry about a leak there... Like the others said it is safe if you did use it.

Safe to use all all your connections but not needed.
