I've been using a Magnum 350 filter on my 29 gal. freshwater aquarium for about 8 yrs. now, without any problems.
Recently, I've noticed a big drop off in its power, even after installing clean filter media. It is barely pumping enough water to keep the bio-wheels running.
I've noticed that the magnet surface on the impeller is no longer smooth (there are scored lines in it) and I am wondering if that is the problem.
If that is the problem, is it worth replacing the impeller set-up or is it time to replace the whole filter?
Thanks in advance for any input.

I would look at replacing the impeller and the shaft it runs on, to determine if it is cost effective. If the inside of the pump cavity is still in good shape, a new impeller could fix it up. When the shaft or the interior of the impeller get worn, it tends to run off center, causing wear on the cavity and loss of power, from the friction.
