I have two Whisper "2"s that are currently filtering my 30 gallon.

One I bought at a yard sale, one I bought at meijer.

I've since cleaned them both, and the pieces got all mixed together, so I'm not sure which one is new and which one is used. mostly likely they're a little bit of both!

the noise is a hum / rattle, but not like the rattle you get when the impeller is running dry or running without it's venturi attached.

the noise goes away if I remove the filter cartridge completely. The cartridge seems to "warp" the filter housing some as you push it in all the way - perhaps this is the cause of the noise ... I've tried different cartridge with the same result.

I've tried lifting the intake tube up and reseating it, sometimes it lessens the noise, sometimes it makes it louder

any thoughts and ideas are appericated

Heh I had the same prob, but didn't fix it. I just returned it. Is it both? If not, maybe return the one makin the noise? I got a Penguin and its been lovely silent.

The only way to fix a crappy whisper filter is to buy a better one ;)
